Cover Letters That Get You Interviews Workshop and ebook

Another Powerful New Tool

from Internsoverforty.com

and Coach Larry Light…

How to make sure you get that interview!

(How a special type of Cover Letter becomes a secret weapon when you combine it with your “Killer” Resume)

Once again we’re proud to announce a second set of packages, published by internsoverforty.com, created by Lawrence M. Light, from eJobCoach.com.

The first component is an easy-to-read eBook; the second companion piece is a “live” presentation in a Video Workshop. These two show you how easy it is to create your own Cover Letters that get interviews.

Because together, as a package, these two tools make for a tremendously powerful “do-it-yourself” experience, we’ve now made it extremely economical for you to get both of them at the same time. (You can still get one or the other separately, if you wish.)

Why we created these packages

By LARRY LIGHT, eJobCoach.com

Let’s say you’ve already got a “Killer” resume. And this Resume follows all the rules laid out in detail in our first set of packages, which you’ve probably already seen — “Creating a “Killer” Resume eBook and Video Workshop.

Our assumption here is that you already possess a“Killer” Resume which is so good, after reading it, you say to yourself, “I didn’t even realize I’ve done that!” It puts a smile on your face because it shows you as one really exceptional candidate. And of course you’re sending it out regularly…

What’s wrong with only sending out your “Killer” Resume?

You sense it, but you’re not quite sure why the feeling is there. The nagging fact is you don’t always feel comfortable with sending out your resume by itself. Especially when you’re wrestling with how to respond to some of those detailed job descriptions posted out there. They’re too complex, too filled with a long list of requirements that ask for things you know you can do, things you’ve done and done well, all of which are implied in your resume. But maybe that’s not so obvious to the potential employer who has to read it, and then compare it to their very specific job requirements, and is looking with tunnel-vision for a particularly well-defined set of skills and work experience.

Think of it this way: If you were standing there on the spot while your resume was being read by a potential employer, you could explain to the HR person or potential employer how you fit their job, and point out the places in your resume that show just how you’ve done what they want. It would make the whole process a lot easier, wouldn’t it? For both of you.

But, of course, unfortunately, you can’t be there standing next to that person who analyzes it when your resume is being read, can you? Of course not.

Yet if it’s out of your hands, however, there are actually two things you can do…

Tailoring” your resume

One thing you can do is to completely re-write your resume every time you submit it to fit each unique job description. This takes an awful lot of time and work and, for many people, is a difficult and challenging task. After all, your “Killer” Resume paints an exceptional picture of you as an achiever and re-writing it involves re-thinking everything. A lot of people try to use this method and find it, frankly, a pain to go over and over the same materials, re-writing and re-arranging their carefully put-together “Killer” Resume. The result is that they often give up in disgust.

A second approach, which is a lot easier, is to learn how to write a special type of Cover Letter that will invariably get you the interview. This can be done quickly, almost mechanically, once you learn the secret of just how to do it. And that’s what our two packages do. They teach you, in step-by-step format, a simple way to turn out cover letter after cover letter that practically places you on the spot, as we described above, at the very instant before the first reader picks up your resume and begins to read it.

Cover Letters, pro and con

Now you probably have heard that there’s a prejudice against cover letters, and you may have heard this repeated in articles, blogs, newspaper columns and on the web. Many people believe that cover letters aren’t useful, and can actually detract from the content of your resume. Some people have actually suggested doing away with any cover letters.

(As a side note, just to insert a harsh note of reality about such opinions, the job search website ziprecruiter.com, very much to the contrary, states that 1/3 of all hiring managers require cover letters.)

So don’t be misled by such opinions.

The reason why so many people have a negative opinion about cover letters is because they’ve seen so many bad ones. There are a lot of them out there. Too many people send them out. They’re worthless. These bad cover letters are wide-spread, easy to spot.

In the first place, these bad cover letters sound “canned,” as if they were churned out, without variation, waxing eloquent about how the applicant would love to work for such-and-such a company, and how they believe they’re especially suited for the job in question. Secondly, they’re written strictly from the viewpoint of the applicant, telling the employer outright that, because of how well suited they are for the job, they ought to hire them or at least interview them. Sometimes they even contain details about work experience that have no relevance to job and this, of course, turns the employer off. They sound like “boiler-plate.”

The people who write this type of cover letter, sending them out no matter what the job description calls for, fall into the category of those who appear not to have even read the job description, and end up again and again in the big “No” pile.

So don’t fall into the trap of thinking that all cover letters are the same.

How we show you how to create Cover Letters that are effective

The first thing you’ll learn in these two packages, before you even write your first cover letter, is how to de-construct a job description. Very few people actually go through this disciplined process to determine what the employer actually wants. Yet it’s critical, more important and useful than you might think, because you can also use it, after you’re called for the interview, in the actual interview.

We do this by showing you examples of real job descriptions and how to analyze them, based on real client case studies. We carefully select these case studies and made certain that they were taken from only situations in which clients

got interviews. They’re real … the details are explained in depth … and the whole process actually worked to get the interview.

Next, you’ll learn what to say, and what not to say, in your Cover Letter, so it responds to the job listing. You’ll learn why certain things are critical and why other things can detract from what you’ve already said. You’ll learn what parts of your Cover Letter can be pre-formatted (to save time) and what parts must never be pre-formatted.

By the time you’ve viewed the Video and backed it up with reading the eBook, you’ll know everything you need to about how to literally churn out one incredibly effective cover letter after another in an extremely short time, whenever you need it to respond a job listing, without the need to completely re-write your entire resume.

Insurance as a concept

As you know, the competition out there is extremely intense. It’s estimated that, for the average job listing, as many as three hundred or more applicants submit resumes. This means you are always in a race, much like a real athletic event, with only one winner.

This means you have to emulate a professional athlete. You have to know exactly what to do and when to do it. You have to have all the necessary tools to handle whatever comes up. It means you have to have a “Killer” Resume that presents you in the best possible light, plus a “known-to-work” Cover Letter that’s written properly so it gets you the interview.

Many people submit resumes but don’t include cover letters. If they do send a cover letter, it tends to be one of the mundane types I’ve described above. By learning how to construct the right kind of cover letter, after watching the Video and reinforcing it reading the eBook, its like buying insurance for yourself … you’re taking that extra step, to make sure you’re ahead of the competition so you get chosen for the interview.

What’s the best way to get this “known-to-work” knowledge?

For over fifteen years, I’ve worked with top level executives such as CEO’s, technical people in such fields as IT and architecture, middle management, and with people out there on the “line.” I’ve enjoyed it and I’ve helped a lot of people.

All this work, however, has been one-on-one. Because of geography, I invariably work with clients by phone. If a client lives on the East Coast, and I’m in California, they can’t drop into my office at a given time. Why get dressed up and drive to some location, wasting hours of precious time when you can pick up the phone and talk to someone directly?

The problem I faced was the fact that all work with clients is extremely limited because I can only deal with one person, individually, one hour at a time. Since have forty hours in a week, and I usually spend an hour with each one every week, I can only handle at most twenty clients, given breaks, difficulty in scheduling appointments, etc. And I usually work with clients week after week.

This sort of thinking got me to thinking that, if I wrote an eBook, it could reach lots of people. All at once. Simultaneously.

So I took time out … analyzed what really was important … separated out the critical phases of a job search … put them in order … and then began writing four separate eBooks. Each covered a separate subject. Each contained real-life information, stories, anecdotes, documents drawn directly from my experience working with clients about what worked and what didn’t.

The result was four complete and individual eBooks:

  • “Killer” Resumes
  • Cover letters that get interviews
  • Interviewing to get the job
  • Networking to find the “hidden” jobs

Bobby Edelman, who created internsoverforty.com, suggested that we also work together to create a Video Seminar Workshop for each of these topics, and I agreed because it sounded like a great idea, especially since we know that some people like to learn by reading, while others like to learn by watching a video.

Both are different vehicles for transferring information; they can be used separately; but taken together, they reinforce each other. And so, recognizing these different modes of learning, we created this series of Video Seminars as a companion piece to the eBooks.

Combined together, as a single offering, the two packages, the eBookCover Letters That Get Interviews and the Video Workshop Seminar about the same subject, make a powerful learning tool. Professional teachers know that this kind of reinforcement, using two different types of presentation, works effectively.

After viewing the Video Workshop Seminar on your PC or laptop, and reading the eBook, it’ll be so easy to create your own Cover Letters, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do anything like this before!

Parallel Packages:

What’s in the eBook and the Video Seminar

These two packages contain the following:

All are based on real experiences my clients had finding, and getting, jobs.

All are proven.

All have a lot of detail covering the subject from A to Z.

Documents used are real.

Tips, techniques, insightful anecdotes all have been designed to illustrate a point and, likewise, come from real life.

Each separate eGuide contains step-by-step instructions showing how to do the right things at the appropriate time in a job search.

Each is written in the same straight-forward, easy-to-read style.

Each is exactly what I would counsel a client to do at every twist and turn of their job search.

It’s all “known to work.”

Each covers a Critical Phase or Milestone in any job search — except for networking, which is valuable on its own, to uncover “hidden jobs”.

Each covers the subject-matter completely.

There’s nothing extraneous, it’s all concisely written, no “filler” material here.

It’s easy to read or view, easy to absorb, and each gets you into action mode by laying out exactly what you need to do.

Quotes about these eGuides

I f you haven’t seen this before, here’s what three individuals said about all of this material. This is what a client who is fifty-plus, a coach, and a military man who is transitioning to the civilian job market, all said of my work:

If you follow these eGuides, it’s almost all you need. It’s good to have someone to talk to, but if a person can’t afford to hire a coach on a regular basis, this is the best alternative. I know it works because it got me the job I’m leaving and the one I’m going to.” — Elaine J.

I couldn’t have written a better job search guide. Larry’s advice is exactly what I would tell any of my clients. From now on, I’ll save my time and their money by recommending they purchase this very helpful set of eGuides. Definitely worth its weight in gold!”
Janet L. Newcomb, professional coach / consultant, www.focusedcoach.com

“I thoroughly enjoyed reading your set of eGuides on finding a job. I am currently transitioning from the military and have been on the job search for over 3 months. The time spent on figuring out what content and format to use in a resume and cover letter can be a challenge when considering 20+ years of service in the military. “Your eGuide essentially guided me through the process of condensing my 20+ years of experience without compromising my most important accomplishments. Most importantly, I learned the differences between the private sector and the government resume and how to market myself. “As if you hadn’t already delivered you included parts III (interviewing) and IV (networking) to seal the deal. While a resume and cover letter may get you in the door how well you network and interview for a job will determine whether you get the job or not. The interviewing portion of the eGuide provided me with the answers to questions recruiters and employers often ask to determine the best candidate for the job and who can best represent their company. This was without a doubt the most important section in the eGuide for me.“Essential reading for anyone looking for a job in the private or government sector.”
